READY TO RESPOND

SAR24 provides search, rescue, and evacuation services in the mountains and in areas of difficult access in Peru.

We combine specialized personnel, operational planning, and satellite communications to respond in environments where distance, altitude, and terrain conditions make providing assistance difficult. Each mission is organized based on the nature of the emergency, weather conditions, and available resources, in coordination with authorities and local communities.

ANDIAN HIGHLANDS

Search, rescue, and evacuation among glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and remote valleys.

The Peruvian Andes encompass landscapes of great beauty that also present significant challenges: snow-capped mountains, glaciers, rock faces, glacial lakes, and remote valleys far from urban centers. In such environments, an emergency may occur hours or even days away from areas accessible by vehicle, necessitating a specialized operation to reach the person in need.

High altitude, low temperatures, sudden weather shifts, and steep slopes can complicate both medical assistance and evacuation. The presence of crevasses, unstable terrain, and exposed areas requires a careful assessment of conditions—both before deploying the team and throughout the entire operation.

SAR24 organizes search, rescue, and evacuation operations along trekking routes, at campsites, on glaciers, and in technical mountain terrain. Each mission is planned based on the location, the condition of the individual, the risks posed by the terrain, and the available resources—with a constant focus on the safety of both those in distress and the rescuers.

PLANNING AND LOCATION

The response begins with the collection of information regarding the emergency: the last known location, planned itinerary, available coordinates, number of people involved, and conditions reported from the site.
This data makes it possible to define approach routes, search sectors, communication points, and evacuation alternatives. Knowledge of the terrain, cartography, and geolocation tools help guide the operation, while satellite communications facilitate coordination in areas lacking cellular coverage.

Reaching an individual in a high-mountain environment may involve traversing remote trails, crossing glacial terrain, or executing technical maneuvers on steep slopes and rock faces. Depending on the requirements of the operation, SAR24 utilizes rope systems, anchors, pulley systems, and stretchers to facilitate access, extraction, and transport.
The evacuation is organized in stages—from the accident site to a transfer point, followed by medical care. When the situation demands it, we coordinate aerial support with the relevant authorities, subject to weather conditions, the nature of the terrain, and the availability of aircraft.

  • Avalanches and snow or ice falls: search and rescue in affected areas, including the assessment of exposure to further slides and the evaluation of access conditions.
  • Glacier accidents and falls into crevasses: technical access, extraction using rope systems, and coordination of transport from glacial terrain.
  • Falls on rock faces, slopes, or mountain passes: rescue operations in areas where steep terrain, exposure, or injuries prevent an individual from continuing on their own.
  • Missing or lost persons: search planning based on the individual’s itinerary, last known sightings, and available information, including the review of routes, campsites, and potential points of deviation.
  • Emergencies during expeditions and trekking: assistance and evacuation for hikers, mountaineers, guides, and support staff who sustain injuries or experience health issues in remote locations.
  • Flash floods and landslides: coordination of access and evacuation in ravines, gorges, and along routes affected by the movement of earth and debris.
  • Glacial lake outbursts: support for rescue and evacuation efforts in affected areas, in coordination with the authorities responsible for emergency management.
A mountain operation requires communication between the field team, operational coordination, and the services that will receive the evacuated individual. SAR24 promotes collaboration with authorities, healthcare services, and local communities to organize access routes, transport, and handover points. Throughout the mission, the plan is adjusted based on changing weather, terrain conditions, and the needs of those affected. Every decision is aimed at facilitating assistance and minimizing exposure to further risks. SAR24: technical preparedness, mountain expertise, and a commitment to preserving life in every mission.

Highlands

The Andes mountain range represents one of the most extreme territories on the planet, where the combination of glaciers, snow-capped peaks, lagoons, and high-Andean valleys creates constant natural hazards.

JUNGLE

The Peruvian Amazon contains a great diversity of ecosystems, but it also represents a high-risk environment due to its geography, extreme climate, and difficult accessibility.

COAST

The Peruvian coast and its desert areas combine natural risks stemming from torrential rains, earthquakes, and rugged terrain.

JUNGLE

Search, rescue, and evacuation in Amazonian environments.

The Peruvian Amazon is a territory of extraordinary natural wealth, consisting of tropical forests, large rivers, streams, and vast floodplains. Its geography also presents significant challenges during an emergency: dense vegetation hinders visibility and navigation, rainfall can alter access routes, and great distances complicate travel to healthcare services.

The heat, humidity, and terrain conditions necessitate careful preparation. In remote areas, an individual who is injured, ill, or lost may require assistance in a location with no mobile phone coverage, no vehicular access, and no immediate means of transport. Reaching such a person requires evaluating routes, organizing resources, and maintaining coordination among those involved in the response.

RESPONSE TAILORED TO EACH EMERGENCY

SAR24 plans and coordinates search, rescue, and evacuation operations in remote jungle areas, taking into account the location, the nature of the emergency, weather conditions, and available resources.

Planning begins with the gathering of information: the last known location, the number of people affected, their reported health status, and potential access routes. This data makes it possible to define search sectors, rendezvous points, and options for evacuation by land, river, or air.

Collaboration with local communities is essential. Their knowledge of rivers, trails, and environmental changes helps guide movement and identify access points that might be difficult to discern from a map. Coordination with authorities and emergency services ensures the continuity of care.

  • Aviation accidents in remote areas: planning search operations based on available information, coordinating access to the crash site, and organizing assistance and evacuation for those affected.
  • River and flood-zone rescues: coordinating support for individuals in danger or stranded due to rising river levels, flooding, or incidents involving watercraft. Each operation takes into account currents, obstacles, and the availability of appropriate resources.
  • Emergencies in isolated communities: organizing access to and transport of injured or ill individuals from remote locations, in coordination with local authorities and health services.
  • Search for missing persons: defining search sectors and routes based on the last known location, planned itineraries, and available witness accounts. Local knowledge, along with navigation and geolocation tools, supports the planning process.
  • Accidents during expeditions and tourism activities: coordinating assistance for travelers, hikers, and field personnel who encounter an emergency while on trails, at campsites, or during river excursions.
  • Evacuations from hard-to-reach areas: organizing the transport of individuals from their location to a medical facility, utilizing a combination of travel on foot, watercraft, and—where feasible and available—aerial support.

In areas lacking conventional network coverage, satellite communications facilitate the exchange of location data, status reports, and identified needs between field teams and operational coordination. This information enables decision-making to be adjusted as mission conditions evolve.

Evacuation requires planning both the departure from the emergency site and the handover of the affected individual. To this end, transfer points, modes of transport, and communication with medical or emergency services are coordinated.

At SAR24, our priority is to organize a safe and coordinated response, tailored to each specific emergency and the unique challenges of the Amazonian environment.
